สมณะ : สิ่งอื่นใดที่ท่านว่านั้นอาจเกิดความสุขได้จริงแต่หาได้เป็นความสุขที่จีรังไม่กาลผ่านไปสุขนั้นย่อมหายไปด้วย เป็นธรรมดา
คนตัดฟืน : หากเป็นอย่างนั้นแล้วความสุขใดเล่าที่เป็นความสุขที่จีรังอย่างที่ท่านว่า
สมณะ : สุขที่ว่านั้นหาได้มิไกลจากท่านเลย จิต ไงเล่าจิตบันดาลได้ให้ทั้งสุขและทุกข์ในเวลาเดียวกันหากจิตยึดติดอยู่ในของ รักของชอบใจนั้น ย่อมมีความสุข แต่เป็นสุขที่เกิดจากการยึดติดในสิ่งของนั้น และเมื่อของสิ่งนั้นอันตรธานไป จิต อีกนั่นเล่าย่อมบันดาลทุกข์ให้เกิดแก้ท่าน
คนตัดฟืน : หากเช่นนั้นแล้วข้าพเจ้าควรทำอย่างไรเพื่อมิให้ทุกข์ดี
สมณะ : มิยึดติดกับของสิ่งใดเลยว่าเป็นของตนแม้แต่ร่างกายนั้นก็ยังมิใช่เวลาผ่านไป ย่อมเสื่อมลงเป็นธรรมดา และเมื่อท่านละได้วางแล้วได้จิตและใจท่านย่อมอยู่ด้วยกันและสุขนั้นจะเกิด ขึ้นเอง นั่นคือสุข ที่เกิดจากการปลดเปลื้งทุกข์แล้วอย่างแท้จริง
